4 weird AP Style rules

FRESNO, Calif. - A judge on Friday threw out a $19.1 million judgment awarded a former Fresno State women's basketball coach who had sued the school claiming gender discrimination, and ordered a new trial unless she accepts a smaller sum.
Former coach Stacy Johnson-Klein has until Feb. 22 to decide whether she'll accept a $6.6 million award instead, the judge said.
Johnson-Klein sued Fresno State claiming gender discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliation because she spoke up for female athletes. The university said Johnson-Klein was fired because of her job performance.
A jury awarded the coach the historic judgment in December. Fresno State attorneys asked the judge to overturn the verdict, claiming Johnson-Klein showed insufficient evidence.

Shaun Hill, who led the 49ers to consecutive victories after injuries sidelined their top two quarterbacks this season, will be back with the team after signing a three-year contract, his agent said Tuesday.
Robert Lattinville declined to disclose the terms of the deal, which won't be completed until the NFL office finishes its review this week. The contract contains performance and playing-time incentives that could boost Hill's pay significantly, the agent said.
"He's thrilled about the opportunity to come back to the 49ers," Lattinville said of Hill, who was eligible for free agency.
Hill and Alex Smith will compete for the starting job next season, Coach Mike Nolan has said.
Smith, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2005, struggled with his passing accuracy this season while trying to play through a shoulder separation that led to season-ending surgery in mid-December.
Backup Trent Dilfer went down with a season-ending concussion against Minnesota on Dec. 9, leading to the first extensive playing time for Hill in his six-year career. Hill, 28, completed 22 of 27 passes in relief of Dilfer that day.
Hill, who fractured his right index finger in an early December practice, made his first NFL start in a 20-13 win against Cincinnati on Dec. 15. He also led a 21-19 victory against Tampa Bay the next week but injured his lower back, forcing him to miss the season finale at Cleveland.
Hill finished 54 of 79 for a team-high 68.4 percent
